The Honorable William Jefferson Clinton 42nd President of the United States
Session: Special Session
William J. Clinton was elected President of the U.S. in 1992 and then again in 1996 - the first Democratic president to be
awarded a second term in six decades. His accomplishments as president include increasing investment in education, providing
tax relief, helping millions of Americans move from welfare to work, expanding access to technology, encouraging investment
in underserved communities, protecting the environment and promoting peace and democracy around the world.
After leaving the White House, President Clinton established the William J. Clinton Foundation. The mission of the foundation
is to strengthen the capacity of people in the United States and throughout the world to meet the challenge of interdependence.
To advance this mission, the foundation is focused on four critical areas: health security, economic empowerment, citizen
service and racial, ethnic and religious reconciliation.
In addition, President Clinton worked in partnership with George H.W. Bush to raise money for victims of the Tsunami and Hurricane
Katrina. He also serves as a co-chair of the Families of Freedom Fund with Senator Bob Dole, which has raised $100 million
