For your information, this letter was sent to Treasury Secretary Snow yesterday by 8 Republican majority members of the House Ways and Means Committee.  It calls upon the President to reject the tax panel’s recommendations of eliminating the deductions for mortgage interest and state and local taxes.  This is an important development, in that without the support of these 8 members in the majority of the committee, it will be very difficult for the panel’s recommendations to get support from a majority of the members of the Ways and Means Committee and thus make consideration by the full body of the House very difficult for the Administration to achieve.
